Mission, Vision & Values
The guiding principles that drive everything we do at Nathan Benderson Park — serving our community, pursuing excellence, and stewarding 550 acres of natural beauty for all.

550 Acres
For Our Community
Why We Exist
To develop and manage Nathan Benderson Park as a premier community and athletic venue that enhances the quality of life in Sarasota County.
Every decision we make, every program we create, and every event we host is guided by this mission. Nathan Benderson Park is more than a venue — it's a community resource that belongs to the people of Sarasota County.
From world-class rowing competitions to free community fitness classes, from youth camps to weekend family outings — everything we do serves one purpose: making life better for the people who call this region home.
Where We're Going
To be a world-class destination that brings together athletics, recreation, and community in a stunning natural setting.
We envision Nathan Benderson Park as a place where Olympic athletes train alongside weekend joggers, where international competitions draw visitors from around the globe, and where every member of our community finds something to love.
Our vision extends beyond athletics. We see a park that is a model for environmental stewardship, a hub for wellness and healthy living, and a gathering place that strengthens the bonds of community for generations to come.

Our Core Values
Five guiding principles shape every program, partnership, and decision at Nathan Benderson Park.
Community
We exist to serve the people of Sarasota County. Every program, event, and improvement is designed to bring people together and strengthen the bonds that make our community thrive. The park is open to all — with free admission, year-round.
Excellence
We pursue the highest standards in everything we do — from maintaining a FISA-certified rowing course to delivering world-class events. Excellence is not a destination but a daily commitment to continuous improvement.
Stewardship
We are responsible stewards of 550 acres of natural beauty entrusted to us by Sarasota County. We protect our waterways, preserve our green spaces, and manage public resources with transparency, accountability, and care for future generations.
Inclusivity
Nathan Benderson Park is for everyone. We welcome athletes and families, visitors and locals, all ages and all abilities. Our programs are designed to lower barriers and ensure that every person who walks through our gates feels they belong.
Wellness
We believe in the power of an active, healthy lifestyle. Through free fitness classes, youth programs, paddling and rowing opportunities, and miles of trails, we make it easy for our community to move, play, and thrive outdoors.
